Patricia Chu, MD, MHSc, MSCE

Patricia Chu, MD, MHSc, MSCE is a Medical Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and core faculty member at Clinical Futures. As a dual-trained adult and pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Chu provides clinical care for patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders across the lifespan at both CHOP and Penn Medicine, with a specific interest in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) as they transition between pediatric and adult healthcare systems.  Dr. Chu’s research focuses on improving health outcomes for AYAs with diabetes by leveraging pharmacoepidemiology and health services research methods.  Current and past projects include use of large clinical and administrative databases to examines medication utilization, adherence, and comparative effectiveness for youth-onset type 2 diabetes. She also leads mixed-methods research to develop and evaluate health services interventions to support AYAs during the critical transition between pediatric and adult healthcare systems.

Dr. Chu earned her Medical Degree and Master of Health Science in Clinical Research (MHSc) from Duke University School of Medicine. She then completed internal medicine-pediatrics residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, followed by combined adult and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and CHOP. During fellowship, she pursued additional training in pharmacoepidemiology and obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology (MSCE) at the University of Pennsylvania.
