Duy Dao, MD, MPH

Duy Dao, MD, MPH is an attending pediatric surgeon in the Division of Pediatric General, Thoracic and Fetal Surgery at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Dao's research spans translational science and health-outcomes research, with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications. These include impactful work defining optimal surgical timing in congenital diaphragmatic hernia and characterizing long-term pulmonary trajectories for survivors. At CHOP, he is a core surgeon in the Esophageal and Airway Treatment (EAT) Program, one of the nation’s most comprehensive multidisciplinary clinics for esophageal atresia/tracheoesophageal fistula (EA/TEF), where he leads studies on surgical innovation, management of postoperative complications, quality of life assessment, and long-term health outcomes for children living with this condition.

Dr. Dao also leads the Clinical Research Program within the Division of General, Thoracic and Fetal Surgery, where he works in close partnership with the Center for Outcomes REsearch in Surgery (CORES). Through active collaboration with CORES and other CHOP research ecosystems, he is committed to building a multidisciplinary research program that integrates surgical expertise with advanced outcomes methodology, data science, and patient-centered investigation to improve care for children with rare congenital disorders.
