Chinyere Umoga is a research postdoctoral fellow in Global perinatal and pediatric epidemiology and an affiliate fellow of Clinical Futures and PolicyLab at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Pediatric Research Center.
She completed her doctoral training in Population Health Sciences at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she was also an NIH T32 Cancer Prevention Fellow. Her dissertation examined heterogeneity in adverse and positive childhood experiences and its implications for how behavioral and mental health risk is conceptualized and measured. Her research draws on epidemiologic and person-centered methods, including latent class analysis, and includes methodological work examining agreement and classification consistency across latent class solutions.
Prior to her doctoral training, Dr. Umoga led and evaluated CDC-funded public health initiatives focused on child abuse and neglect, traumatic brain injury, child passenger safety, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and childhood adversity. She holds a master's degree in Health Management and Policy from Georgia State University, with a bachelor's degree in Behavioral Neuroscience and Biological Anthropology from Emory University. Her research interests include understanding how early-life, social, and contextual experiences shape maternal and child health, advancing approaches to measurement and epidemiologic inquiry, and translating research evidence into policies, programs, and practices that improve population health.
