Joanne N. Wood is a faculty member at Clinical Futures and PolicyLab at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, an assistant professor of Pediatrics in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and an attending physician in the Division of General Pediatrics. She is also the director of Research of Safe Place: Center for Child Protection and Health at CHOP and the director of Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship at Safe Place.

Dr. Wood attended Penn's Perelman School of Medicine, where she earned her MD in 2002. She was an intern and resident in pediatrics at CHOP, where she subsequently served as chief resident. In 2006, she participated in the Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship at CHOP. From 2007 to 2010, Dr. Wood was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at Penn and earned her Master in Health Policy Research (MSHP).

Dr. Wood is committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable children, especially abused and neglected children. One of the primary focuses of Dr. Wood’s research is on improving the early detection of child abuse among children presenting for medical care. Dr. Wood’s research in the field of child maltreatment extends beyond hospital-based care to the child welfare, behavioral health, and primary care systems. She is also interested more broadly in interventions designed to support caregivers of young children and strengthen families.
