Emma Edmondson (she/her) is an assistant professor of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and an adult Diabetologist at the Penn Rodebaugh Diabetes Center at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Edmondson’s research focuses on the prevention and management of obesity and diabetes across the lifespan, with the goal of advancing health equity for families affected by nutrition-related chronic diseases. Her prior work has investigated the impact of the Philadelphia Beverage Tax on low-income families with young children and on adolescents to understand how food policies influence health behaviors tied to obesity and diabetes. As a physician trained in internal medicine and pediatrics, she is also dedicated to improving the transition from pediatric to adult care for young adults in order to prevent poor health outcomes later in life. Her current research aims to develop a community health worker-assisted pediatric to adult transition program for young adults with type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Edmondson graduated from Oberlin College with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Before attending medical school, she was an AmeriCorps volunteer at a nonprofit dedicated to fighting childhood hunger, food insecurity, and obesity. She earned her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and CHOP. She then completed Academic General Pediatrics Fellowship at CHOP, a Master of Science in Health Policy Research at Penn, and the Penn Rodebaugh Clinical Diabetes Fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
